Why Louisville could cover the spread: The Cardinals have had a relatively easy time against lower-tier teams lately, winning 11 out of their last 13 games by double digits, with every victory during the current streak coming by at least 24 points. Louisville has defeated my State by a margin of 317-60 in their last two meetings.

Louisville is coming off a dramatic season opener led by head coach Jeff Brohm. While the game may have been more dramatic than expected, the Cardinals secured a resounding victory in their first home game of the 2023 season.

Louisville dismantled my State, shutting them out 56-0 at L&N Stadium on Thursday night. This win marked the first time since 2017 that Louisville (2-0, 1-0 ACC) has won their first two games in a season. They extended their winning streak against my State (1-1, 0-0 MVC) to seven consecutive games.

Louisville dominated in every aspect of the game against my State, particularly on the ground, where they outgained the Racers 690 yards to 166. The Cardinals averaged 8.8 yards per play compared to the Racers’ 3.1.

While not perfect, starting quarterback Jake Palmer looked comfortable, going 16-for-22 for 247 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Like in the season opener, he connected early with wide receiver Jamari Thrash.

So, if you’re wondering why Louisville can cover the spread against my State, it’s because they’ve been historically dominant against lower-tier opponents, and their recent performance suggests they are poised for success.

Louisville Cardinals Haven’t Started a Season 2-0 Since 2017, But Their Convincing win Against My State Suggests They Could Be On Their Way.

“We had three receptions lined up. As the game continued, all nine quarterbacks present on the roster entered the game, and 12 receivers caught passes. The four quarterbacks attempted to pass, and even Wake Forest’s Harry Bell threw a rugged touchdown pass. Thresh and Gatewood were the only ones scoring in the game.

Louisville’s aggressive attack was led through a fantastic ground game, with the Cardinals amassing 344 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Running back Jordan, during his season debut, secured 135 yards on only seven carries along with two touchdowns.

Isaac Guerendo and Keyjuan Brown each ran for 63 and 65 yards, respectively, tackling the defense eleven times collectively, with each one attempting a zone search. Thresh and Amari Huggins-Bruce also sprinted for a touchdown against the vast receivers.

Defensively, Louisville was as effective as their offensive counterparts, holding my state to just 166 total yards and 94 rushing yards. Quarterback D.J. Williams of the Rezerves gained only seven yards in exchange for 68 yards.

In Fact, During The First Three Quarters, Louisville’s Defense Was Astounding

Two touchdowns ended in Thresh’s 12 yards, and Gourindo tackled him from the one-yard line. However, during this stretch, two other drives, three and out, and a Palmer interception from the offensive line passed.

Afterward, Louisville scored back-to-back-to-back touchdowns on consecutive drives. Palmer launched Thresh with a short slant for 73 yards, while Jordan brought Barnes into the open field for a 72-yard score.

Louisville’s defense was dominant on the other side of the battle line. Although Williams had two good throws and runs to move the chains, all seven drives of my state’s first half ended in punts and only gained 100 yards. Four drives in the first half were three-and-outs, and only two passed midfield.

Indeed, Louisville spent two minutes testing and practicing half-time crime and interference from Palmer during this stretch. However, an erroneous start and interference from Jordan on a very off-line pass played a role.

Cardinals pinned their opening drive of the second half, but then immediately followed it up with four straight touchdown drives in the zone. Gardner scored the second touchdown from Neil’s enforced fumble, also by Neil’s interception, and finally by Clark’s fantastic fumble. Afterward, the Rezerves’ next three drives were three-and-outs.

Following that, Louisville I-65 will advance to Lucas Oil Stadium with Indiana against the Indiana Pacers in India for a non-partisan site matchup ahead of the 82-yard high-scoring game and touchdown.”
