This AI model will be used for digital pathology and oncology, and it has been built with billions of parameters, making it larger than any other model of its kind available today.

The founder and Chief Scientist of Paige, Dr. Thomas Fuchs, explained to FOX News Digital that the amount of data used in this model surpasses anything known to come from Google or Facebook.

Paige has been digitizing thousands of slides for years to aid in cancer diagnosis. However, for this kind of work, the need for AI models with billions of images and massive computing power was essential. Fuchs stated, “This is where Microsoft comes in. We work with Microsoft in many facets. So, with Nuance, for example, with Azure, and Microsoft Research and their resources and their scale, we can now build models with thousands of GPUs that are applied at an unprecedented scale.”

In the next developmental phase, up to 4 million digitized microscopic slides from clinical data archives will be included in the Paige AI model. Using Microsoft’s vast computing infrastructure, this model will be deployed in laboratories and hospitals to assist in diagnoses.
