USC vs. Colorado Football 2023: Caleb Williams Shines as Trojans Fend Off Buffaloes’ Comeback Bid – Final Score and Results

This wasn’t good in any way, but the Trojans prevailed after a tough Saturday in Boulder. Caleb Williams and No. 8 USC did enough to escape Colorado with a 48- 41 palm over Dion Sanders’  team. With the palm, USC  bettered to 5- 0, while Colorado dropped to 3- 2 after an alternate  successive loss.

Williams, the winner of the Protective Heisman jewel, was sensational  once again, as USC Quarterback threw for 403 yards and 4 touchdowns, ending the game 40- 30 with 8 touchdown passes. He added 25 rushing yards on five attempts and threw the game’s first interception.

For Sanders, Colorado QB had another strong day at the office. The son of Coach Prime threw for 371 yards and 4 touchdowns but also had one interception. In a high- scoring game, Sanders added 76 rushing yards on 14 carries, including a speedy 25- yard TD.

It was a tale of two halves for both programs. In the first half, the Trojans dominated with a 34- 14 lead, as the Buffaloes  plodded to find their footing. A missed field  goal, a punt blocked by Colorado, and an interception all contributed to USC’s big halftime advantage.

Still, it was the Lincoln Rally’s  platoon that made several  miscalculations in the alternate half, giving Colorado a chance to get back into the game. USC secured a 48- 21 lead in the third quarter, but the Trojan defense faltered, allowing 20 unanswered points, while Williams and the scoring board remained silent.

In the end, the comeback  trouble fell  suddenly, as the Sanders and Buffaloes had left it too late. USC moved to an undefeated 17- 0 record with the palm over Colorado.

The biggest positive for Colorado was the emergence of wide receiver Omeriyon Miller. The  youthful player made the  utmost of his playing time and  openings, racking up 196 yards on seven catches and a touchdown.

After the road palms, USC is heading back home to Southern California at the end of the coming week as the Trojans host Arizona in a Pac- 12  tourney. Meanwhile, Colorado is heading to Tempe this coming week, where they’re trying to bounce back in the palm column against Arizona State.

The Sporting News tracked all the updates and highlights of the USC vs. Colorado  tourney in Week 5 of the  council football season.

USC vs. Colorado Live Updates, Saturday’s 5-Game Preview

Final Score: USC 48, Colorado 41

3:39 p.m. – Here we go. Feely makes an on-side kick attempt for USC, and the Trojans are pushing ahead for the Trojan victory. It certainly wasn’t a pretty ending, but Williams’ strong first half and the Trojans’ defense holding Colorado to 5-0 were enough in the end.

3:38 p.m. – It’s a game! Colorado needs to recover the on-side kick, as USC can only kneel the clock down otherwise, and Colorado has no timeouts left.

3:37 p.m. – Touchdown! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a high-scoring game on our hands. Sanders finds Junior for a 16-yard touchdown pass in the end zone. Remember, this game was once 48-21 as the Buffaloes mounted a 20-point comeback. This marks Sanders’ fourth touchdown pass of the day with 1:43 remaining.

3:34 p.m. – Miller once again! Sanders throws it to the sideline, and the latest wide receiver makes the catch to move the chains for Colorado. The Buffaloes are now at USC’s 11, and there are only two minutes left.

3:34 p.m. – Miller with another catch, and he takes it downfield once again, putting Colorado in USC territory. 3:32 p.m. – Sanders connects with Miller for a 14-yard gain, moving the chains for the Trojans. However, Colorado is burning a lot of clock, with some questionable clock management calls without any timeouts.

3:31 p.m. – A missed field goal! The memory of Lench’s day’s first field goal attempt comes to mind as he hooks it to the right. Colorado gets a lifeline, trailing by only two scores with 5:58 remaining.

3:30 p.m. – Williams goes to Austin Jones, just as Derek McAllister II and Amari McNiel combine for a tackle. USC is looking to secure the field goal.

3:25 p.m. – Williams throws it to Austin Jones, much like Derek McAllister II, and Amari McNiel did for the Buffaloes. USC is looking to secure a field goal.

3:20 p.m. – USC sets up for another touchdown. Colorado takes 4 and 5 to the midfield, but a pass interference call gives Sanders the chance to find Benton in the end zone. It’s a Bison mistake as they had to try to knock the ball away instead of taking the catch.

3:16 p.m. – A lost field goal! Remember Lench’s first field goal attempt of the day, as he hooks it to the right. Colorado gets a lifeline, trailing by only two scores with 5:58 remaining.

3:11 p.m. – Colorado is threatening again as the Buffaloes return to the red zone. Harris Jr. takes it to 17 yards, and Colorado is at USC’s 14.

2:51 p.m.Touchdown! We’re going back and forth as Colorado responds once again. This time, Sanders finds Michael Anderson for a 21-yard touchdown. It’s not the cleanest effort, as Miller is just out of reach for the catch. However, Colorado is not going away.

2:50 p.m. – Williams is picked off when his throw gets deflected and ends up in the arms of a Colorado defender.

USC 41, Colorado 21

2:46 p.m. – Touchdown! Hinkerson finishes it off for Colorado. 2:45 p.m. – The Trojans get to Williams at this time when Throop gets out of it and ends up in the arms of a Colorado defender.

2:41 p.m. – Colorado needed that big play. Omari Miller delivers. The freshman wide receiver makes his first catch of his NCAA career, a 65-yard catch that takes the ball to the USC 10-yard line. The latest addition is making the most of his opportunity for Colorado.

USC 48, Colorado 21

2:46 p.m. – Touchdown! Hinkerson finds the end zone again for Colorado. The Buffaloes take 4 and 5 to get there, and Sanders comes out of the pocket to chase Miller in the end zone, who makes the catch for a score. 2:45 p.m. – The Trojans get to Williams at this time when Throop gets out of it and ends up in the arms of a Colorado defender.

2:41 p.m. – Colorado responds with a strong defensive stand, forcing USC to punt on their opening drive of the second half.

Half-Time: USC 34, Colorado 14

USC 34, Colorado 14

1:43 p.m. – Touchdown! The Trojans left the defense in the middle of the field wide open, and Colorado’s QB uses his legs to sprint 25 yards for a touchdown. If Colorado was planning to make a comeback in this game, they needed this touchdown badly, and Dion’s son delivered. Alejandro Mata’s extra point makes it a 20-point game with just 21 seconds left in the second quarter.

1:38 p.m.– Colorado is putting together a good drive late in the half. The Buffaloes have used their legs a couple of times to pick up yards. USC seems comfortable sitting back and keeping the drama in front of them, making sure they tackle within bounds, aware that time is running out for Colorado, needing more than just a field goal.

USC 34, Colorado 7

1:32 p.m.– Touchdown! It’s been a day for Williams as he scores his fourth touchdown of the day. QB Q found Rice with an RPO, and the speedy wide receiver shakes off a man, sprints down the sideline, and dives for the pylon. Lynch misses the extra point, so it’s just 34-7 on the board. Things have quickly slipped away from Colorado, and USC’s defense has the upper hand.

1:28 p.m.– Just like that, USC is back in the red zone. Williams found Rice for 13 yards and then found Lloyd downfield for a 50-yard line crossing route. Williams already has over 200 passing yards in this contest, and the first half isn’t even over yet.

1:24 p.m.– Colorado’s offense can’t seem to get anything going. USC’s pass rush is relentless, either disrupting plays or forcing Sanders to throw it away. The Buffaloes have to punt after only picking up one first down on the drive.

USC 28, Colorado 7

1:15 p.m.– Touchdown! Colorado is on the board. Sanders found Johnson on a post route for a 30-yard score. USC’s coverage was caught underneath, leaving the field wide open. It’s back to a two-possession game with 12:59 left in this two-possession game.

1:09 p.m.– Blocked punt! USC’s special teams unit joins the party with a blocked punt on Colorado’s effort. It sets up the Trojans on the Colorado 23-yard line. Just when it looked like Colorado was changing momentum, USC took it right back.

1:08 p.m.– O’Marian Cooper took Colorado’s first drive of the day. He runs it down the sideline and levels Williams, who didn’t see the corner coming. It sends USC out of field goal range, forcing them to punt after the third-down stop.

1:06 p.m.– Lloyd is not stopping for USC today. His back-to-back carries take him 12 and 18 yards to cross midfield.

USC 21, Colorado 7

1 p.m.– Touchdown! Colorado is on the board. Sanders found Johnson for a 24-yard touchdown on the post route. The USC defense had slipped underneath, leaving the field wide open. It’s back to a two-possession game with 7:30 left in the first half.

12:51 p.m.– Touchdown! On the first play of the second quarter, Singer sprints past the coverage for a 7-yard score. USC takes advantage of Colorado’s turnover and converts it into seven points.

12:44 p.m.– Interception! Sanders is picked off by Christian Roland-Wallace for the second time this season. Sanders was looking for Wyler but the wide receiver went inside when Sanders thought he was going outside, making the choice an easy one for Roland-Wallace. Things are quickly going wrong for Colorado as USC takes over at the Colorado 22 again.

12:58 p.m.– Hankerson is the bright spot for Colorado so far. The Buffaloes needed some good field position, and Hankerson returned it 18 yards, getting Colorado past their own 30-yard line.

USC 21, Colorado 0

12:51 p.m.– Touchdown! In the first play of the second quarter, Singer races across the coverage for an 8-yard touchdown. USC capitalizes on Colorado’s turnover and converts it into seven points.

USC 14, Colorado 0

12:46 p.m.– The end of the first quarter occurs with USC knocking on the door again, setting up on Colorado’s 8-yard line with 2nd and 7.

USC 14, Colorado 0

12:39 p.m.– Touchdown! No time wasted in coming back on the Trojan board, as Williams connects with Washington for a 71-yard touchdown drive on the third play. The Trojans’ QB had excellent protection on 3rd down and ultimately found a wide-open Washington not just for the first down but also a whopping 7 points. The extra point by Lynch sails through, making it 14-0 in favor of USC, with 2:30 left in the first.

12:32 p.m.– Missed Field Goal! Colorado drives the ball down to USC’s 23 and brings out Jess Fleiley for a 41-yard field goal attempt, but it’s off to the left. The 17-play drive doesn’t result in any points for Colorado.

12:31 p.m.– Dylan Edwards’ second-down run was short-lived, but Anthony Hankerson takes a direct snap on third down and gets Colorado its first down. Hankerson follows it up with a 21-yard run deep into Trojan territory.

12:28 p.m.– USC’s a big mistake, handing Colorado another timeout. The Buffaloes had a 3rd and 1, but a false start pushed them back five yards. On the next play, Colorado was called for a personal foul for interference, but after that drama, a personal foul against USC gave Colorado an automatic first down.

12:25 p.m.– Sanders is making quick connections with wide receiver Vontae Jackson. Three catches already on this drive, all short yardage gains.

12:24 p.m.– Colorado gets a timeout as USC is about to play 3rd and 5, pushing Buffaloes out of bounds. The game continues against USC.
